Season 3 update (January 2024)

We know many fans are interested in whether there’s going to be more Night Terrace, after all this time. We try to keep our Kickstarter backers up to date on that front, but it’s been a while since our last public update. So: will there be a third season?

The short answer is yes! But we don’t know when just yet. We have been working on the season over the past few years, but the impact of the ongoing pandemic and many other factors have made it difficult to sustain the kind of momentum we had on the first two seasons.

But we are making progress – we were most recently in the studio this month (January 2024)! And we very much intend to finish a full third season, plus some extra goodies for our Kickstarter supporters, who have stuck with us all this time.

So keep an eye on this website, where we’ll announce a public release date when we have one. Until then, thanks for your interest, and we hope you continue to enjoy the seasons and mini-series we’ve already made. If you want to help us out, recommending the show to others is a great way to do that; occasional sales help meet all of our ongoing costs. And please, seek out and support other independent artists, especially in comedy and audio.

Thank you,

Ben McKenzie

On the Terrace: It’s Jackie Woodburne!

In this very special On the Terrace, Night Terrace and Neighbours star Jackie Woodburne joins host Vaya Pashos and Night Terrace co-star Ben McKenzie to talk about being Anastasia Black and Susan Kennedy, audio as a medium and how good the food was during recording. (No, seriously.) Plus a few snippets also from co-star Petra Elliott, reporting from off the terrace!

As we post this there’s just one week left for the Night Terrace season three Kickstarter campaign. Backing the campaign not only means you can get the full third season at a discount price, but also means that we’ll actually get to make it! Plus of course there are plenty of other exciting rewards you could pick, including some exclusive bonus content. And even if you don’t pledge money to the campaign, sharing the link with anyone you think might be interested helps us out a bunch, too. The campaign ends on November 21, 2019.

Night Terrace season three is available to pre-order by pledging to our Kickstarter campaign. The first two seasons will be repeated on BBC Radio 4 Extra in 2020 (dates TBC). You can listen to the very first episode, “Moving House”, via the campaign or at nightterrace.com. If you’re considering buying the first two series, please do so via our crowdfunding campaign! Show Notes

UK comedy guest stars!

With our season three crowdfunding campaign nearly halfway done, we thought this would be a great time to announce our latest guest star, Toby Hadoke. Plus we’d like to highlight the other stars of UK comedy star who’ll be in season three: the Scottish Falsetto Sock Puppets!

NIGHT TERRACE - UK comedy guest stars join the Australian cast for season three!

Toby Hadoke is best known to many for the live show and radio serial Moths Ate My Doctor Who Scarf. But he’s also a prolific actor, comedian, writer and podcaster! He’s appeared in television dramas like Holby City, Casualty, Coronation Street and even Doctor Who’s 50th anniversary William Hartnell biopic An Adventure in Time and Space. And he’s no stranger to audio, having played various roles in Big Finish Doctor Who and original dramas, and appeared on radio many times – including as an announcer on the 7th Dimension, where he introduced Night Terrace! We’re so pleased to have him on board. (Splendid Chaps fans will probably love his Doctor Who interview podcast, Toby Hadoke’s Who’s Round, celebrating the 50th anniversary.)

We were also thrilled when the Scottish Falsetto Sock Puppet Theatre said they’d join us! They’ve been delighting comedy audiences with their satirical songs and sketches for nearly 15 years, both live on stage and on their popular YouTube channel. They’ve become a staple of the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, toured all over the world – including to Australia – and you can even find them in the DVD extras for several Doctor Who stories. We’re told by their manager, Kev F. Sutherland – who’s worked on The Beano and created The Sitcom Trials – that the puppets are more excited than that time they got confused about which Jodie Whittaker was playing the Doctor.

We’re hoping to have some more great guest stars lined up before the campaign ends, and we’ll post about them then! Until then, keep an eye on our Kickstarter campaign, and help us get over the line – every pledge and every share helps!

Season 3 crowdfunding campaign starts October 23

As previously announced, there’s going to be a third season of Night Terrace – and we’ll need your help to make it! Our Kickstarter campaign will kick off on Wednesday, October 23 (based on Australian Eastern Daylight Time), with a planned release window of May 2020.

By supporting the campaign and pledging some cash, you’ll make possible eight more episodes of Night Terrace – and get yourself some great rewards into the bargain! Rewards include:

  • Early access to a digital copy of the new season, plus extra bonus material!
  • A Night Terrace USB key and key-ring!
  • A Kickstarter-exclusive audiobook of Night Terrace short stories, read by Ben McKenzie and written by some of our favourite authors!
  • A Kickstarter-exclusive bonus episode!
  • Your name – or even voice – mentioned in the show!

This time around some of the rewards will only be available through backing the Kickstarter, and won’t be released anywhere else. We want this season to be the biggest and best yet, so we’re shooting for the moon!

We’ll link to the campaign from our front page when it’s ready to kick off; until then, watch our site and social media for more information.

Season three coming to Kickstarter in 2019

With season two getting near the end of its premiere run on BBC Radio 4 Extra, we’re excited to announce our plans to make a third season of Night Terrace!

Sue, Anastasia and Eddie return for eight more episodes!

Anastasia has been all over space and time with Eddie Jones and Sue Denholm, but there’s still of lot of universe out there. Picking up after the end of season two, season three will have the housemates travelling far across the galaxy, seeing alien life from an entirely new angle, and paddling through the timstream of human history.

The main cast of Jackie Woodburne, Petra Elliott and Ben McKenzie all return, as do company players Amanda Buckley and Dave Lamb. There’ll also be a full supporting cast of guest stars. The series will be written by John Richards, Lee Zachariah, David Ashton and Ben McKenzie, and produced by John and Ben, with music and sound design by David. Season two is planned for release in May 2020.

A new Kickstarter campaign means new rewards – many of which will be familiar to backers of our previous two seasons! Get a digital copy of the new season for $5 off the usual asking price, or get a physical copy on a special USB key with a custom key ring. If you want more, there are signed scripts, the chance to have your name or voice in an episode, and even get an associate producer credit!

As well as the familiar rewards, we have a few new ones this year. We’re particularly excited about releasing a collection of original Night Terrace short stories, by the writers and guest authors – including George Ivanoff! – which will be read as an audio book by Ben McKenzie. They’ll be exclusive to the higher tiers of the Kickstarter campaign, so don’t miss out if you want to hear them!

The campaign will launch in mid-October, just after the end of season two’s broadcast on BBC Radio 4 Extra. Watch our web site, email newsletter and social media for more information – and maybe a surprise or two – in the lead up to the campaign.
